The match was set to kick off at 14h30 at Pollsmoor sports field and the Dynamiters had a great warm-up session leading up to the match, the lads were focused and switched on.

During the warm up, Che Arenz (hooker) seemed to have been sniped by one of the prison guards and went down with a calf injury ruling him out of the match with Dan Nel taking over at hooker. To add to the confusion, kick off was delayed as the hosts were running late. Discussions between the referee, Jon Friday (Coach) and Ismail Jattiem (Captain) resulted in an agreement to kick the match off at 15h00 instead..

Finally Jonathan Mackenzie kicked off for the start of the match and the Pollsmoor lads came at the Dynamiters with some good intensity. A few silly penalties at the breakdown resulted in the hosts having an early opportunity to take the lead through a shot at goal that eventually drifted wide into the hands of Dynamiters wing Cameron Pym, who decided to take the Pollsmoor defense on from within his in goal area and was tackled into touch just outside the visitor’s 22.  A line-out steal from Shaun Colclough (first of many in this game) and some phases where Albe Bosman was prominent in breaking the line whilst running great support lines resulted in a penalty for the Dynamiters. Jonathan was on hand to put the kick into touch inside the hosts 22.

The Dynamiters were hot on the attack with excellent set piece dominance and good ball retention at ruck time. Lots of carries by the forwards also tired the smaller Pollsmoor pack. The referee penalised the hosts for infringing in their red zone and Ishy decided to take the gifted three points on offer. Jonathan converted the penalty.

The Dynamiters take the lead 3-0

From receiving the kick-off the Dynamiters were again on the attack. The forwards were taking the ball up and when the visitors went wide the hosts were in trouble. Unfortunately the Dynamiters kicking game was not working very well.  The Dynamiters marched into the host’s 22 again and setup some scrums and drives in an attempt to get over the white line… Perhaps the forwards were guilty of overplaying a bit, but the big pack seemed to enjoy the collisions, Albe in particular, putting their bodies on the line when hitting the rucks ensuring good ball. The Dynamiters crossed the line on more than one occasion only to be held up. Yet another scrum 5m out for the visitors saw the eighth man pick the pill up and offload to the no.10 who popped a brilliant backhanded offload of his own to a flying Matthew Gunston for the first 5 pointer of the match. Good conversion by Jonathan, score 10 – 0.

From the kick-off Albe was again influential as he received another pass and went well past the gain line. Unbelievable scrum dominance by the Dynamiters resulted in a brilliant back line move that saw Brett Pym cross the line for the second try. The missed conversion by Jonathan left the score at 15 – 0 to the Dynamiters at halftime

The second half saw the Dynamiters continuing with set piece dominance. Pollsmoor had a scrum just inside their own half and with a good switch of direction behind the pack they sent their left wing down the line… great defense by Zunaid Kapery on the support runner, but Pollsmoor went over in the corner, but they over ran the dead ball line and NO TRY!

Jonathan restarts at the 22m line with a weighted kick off that saw Shaun pluck the ball from the air and shoot off on a great run before offloading to a supporting Zunaid on the wing.

Some tactical subs made by coach Jon Friday included:

Gino on for Zunaid.

Albie makes yet another run, breaching the gain line from the ensuing ruck. The back-line move the ball through the hands…  TRY TIME!!! Gino over the line. The conversion is missed with score the now 20-0 to Dynamiters.

Chad on for Matthew Visser with Waldo moving to lock. Chad covering at loose forward.

Mark Chapman on for JP at loose-head.

The replacement fly-half, Jayd Tasker, shot some great passes and the visitors were on the front foot again. Penalty and a kick to touch was setup just inside the Pollsmoor 22.

Great line-out by the Dynamiters and Shaun goes over for a well deserved try. Missed conversion by Jayd (possibly the worst attempted conversion in league history earns Jayd a DOD nomination). Score now 25-0.

From the kick off there was some great interplay from Pym to Pym and to Pym again and also very good support from Albe.

Chad had to leave the field for blood and Visser came back on. Visser takes the referee out (another DOD contender). Visser off as Chad is back on.

The Dynamiters were back on attack and Jayd ran good support lines, Cameron Pym went over TRY TIME!!! No conversion and score is 30-0.

With a couple of minutes to go and an attacking scrum for the Dynamiters, Waldo had a little mishap (a few men should be really happy for this as it saved them from certain DOD duty). He ran off the field and Visser (who couldn’t get enough of this game it seemed) was back on.

The final move of the game saw great interplay by the Pym’s again but without a change to the score

Final score 30-0 to Hammies.
